Bruce was not ready to be Batman again, and Tim was too young and inexperienced to assume the role, so Bruce asked Dick Grayson, his "Prodigal Son," to become Batman. Dick was Batman for some time, and finally, several months later, Bruce became Batman again. This only happened after Bruce re-evaluated his motivations for being Batman. Batman is d arker than ever now.
