This site, The Dark Knight, has been produced by me (Patrick Furlong). Because I have produced it, I hold the copyright for the pages and their contents, including the design, layout, and text of the site. I also hold the copyright for any original graphics that are on the site.

I do not, however, hold any rights to Batman and its related elements. DC Comics holds those rights. I use Batman graphics scanned from comics, and DC Comics holds the copyright to those graphics. While I do not have permission to use those graphics, I do not use them in any commercial venture. I don't make a dime from this site - no profit, no earnings, nothing. So DC Comics should have no reason to complain. I claim to be using this information as stipulated under the Fair Use clause of US Copyright Law.

I also do not hold the copyright to the Knight Font. This copyright is held by Treehouse Graphic Design. For more information, check out the page regarding the Knight Font. Because this font is copyrighted, I cannot provide you with a copy of it. So, please, don't ask for it.

While I don't own any rights to the images that have come from scans from the comics, I do ask that, if you want to use them on a web site or in any sort of publication, that you ask me first. Each graphic has taken about an hour to modify (to remove backgrounds, other characters, lettering, etc.), so I'd appreciate being asked first. And if you take any graphics that are my original works, including the bat logo at the bottom of each page or the graphic at the top of each page, you must ask me first. Those are my works (or works done for me), and I hold the copyright to them.

I also hold the copyright to all text contained within this site. I've written it (or others for me), and I own it. If you want to quote it, or use part of it, you must ask me. The only time I don't own it is if it is a registered trademark of someone else (i.e. the word Batman or Colorforms), and you must ask the orginal copyright/trademark owner. I also hold the copyright to the layout of the site. That is mine, as I designed it.

And, finally, the scripts. This site requires a large number of CGI programs to provide certain services. Some of them I created, some I didn't. Matt's Script Archive provided the Guestbook and the Gotham News programs. Selena Sol's Script Archive provided the database program for the Comics Database. I have written everything else on this site. If you're interested in my writing CGI applications for you, drop me a line. But don't bother looking around for the code to these programs - you won't get it.

Basically, all I'm saying here, is ask before you take. That will make me happy, and keep me from writing you an email message asking about why you've swiped something. Feel free, however, to grab any JavaScript or HTML from the documents themselves, for example, to incorporate a table in a special way. That's the spirit of the net. We all learn by seeing. However, my CGI programs are mine, so please don't even try to swipe them. If you really like some program I've got here, drop me a line and we'll talk.

This site is my way of spreading my enjoyment of Batman with others, and to help people keep up to date about Batman. I don't sell advertising on this site, and there are no fees charged. Maritime Tel & Tel, upon whose server this site is located, has no rights to anything on this site, and is not liable for anything on this site.
